A busy hard working day, goodbye carpet, I'm sorry to say I wont miss you!
Have a mentioned that I hate our carpet (sorry Sal, I know you don't agree!), I mean I really really hate our carpet, to be fair its not really the carpets fault...its just lying there doing its job, its not its fault that it happens to be the colour of sewage (the photos really fails to capture the faded brown/green colour...nice). I think the carpet reminds me to much of the old, tired, drab, unloved house it was just over a year ago. In short our carpet makes me sad...until this weekend that is! The last remnants of the carpet was on the staircase and little upstairs landing, I have been itching to rip it out for a year but other jobs always cropped up that demanded more attention so it slipped inexorably down the priority list. This weekend however found us with nothing else on (well, ok we do have a huge list of other things to do but this was quick and required no specialist equipment, thus no need to spend any money!) Rich was happy that it wasn't a job that required him to crawl around in cramped dark, itchy hell holes so happily got his crowbar and got cracking... A huge sigh of relief that its a properly built staircase and not some mad chipboard bodge, which much of the rest of the house seems to be! Arrr, naked stairs! Ok, I know they are a funny butterscotch colour but I cant believe what a difference getting rid of the dark carpet has made. We are thinking that we'll paint the edges white and have a runner up the middle, although as usual our budget negates just going to a carpet shop and simple buying a runner and getting it fitted, so we are looking for cunning (aka cheap) alternatives. Suggestion on a postcard please.

I'd favour F and B paint - very stylish, very cottage. Noisier than carpet / matting but cheaper, surely.

You're right hunting is the best part. I've looked for similar filing cabinets but they're just so much nowadays, am extremely jealous of your finds. There dont seem to be many flea markets locally to us, just antiques fairs etc and the charity shops are all a little bit bare recently. I'll keep searching though!
