Raised Beds...almost

4/6/2011

I meant to post this last Sunday but quite frankly was too tired! We finally made a start on the raised beds last weekend and as with everything we attempt it was a lot more complicated that expected!
The major problem with our garden is its on a slope, thus making any kind of level surface means some sort of terracing. Now we have literally no experience at terracing a garden (we never bothered at the last house!) so we did what we always do...we made it up as we went along.

Heres an exciting pile of earth...and some old wood, trust me it was a lot more fraught that it looks in the pictures!

Heres Rich, making it up. God it looks like some sort of military trench!

Here is the terracing nearly finished, it doesn't look much but that took us about 5 hours!

And there we have it...wow, impressive isn't it! Ok as with most structurally important things most of it buried, the raised bed will go on top of this and we'll fill it from the mountainous pile we dug out for the parking bay. Fingers crossed that will happen this weekend, I'm hoping that now we know what we're doing the next 2 will be easier, we just need to get some more planks from somewhere!
I'm also on the look out for reclaimed bricks to make some nice paths between the beds. So at last we're moving forward with some of our projects, what a difference having nice weather makes!

More pics soon!
