So thats what Ive been doing with my first weekend off in 5 weeks, we'll be pretty buy the next few weeks as we are finally getting our roof replaced (after the leaks last winter) so our cottage currently looks like this...
I've been doing some work the last few days on two pieces of furniture we have in our tiny little hallway, one was a 60s phone table given to us by Rich's Mum, I had thought it was an Ercol one but have since found out it by a company called Chippy Heath and is quite collectable. It was varnished in a horrible dark stain when it came to us (typical 1960's) and have quite a lot of scrapes and watermarks... It took 2 days to sand all this off, it looked sooo much better once this colour was gone! I used regular bees wax to seal the wood to give it some protection day to day. It looked great once finished but when sanding I discovered the one front leg was made of a different type of wood to the rest of it meaning it looked odd a dark red colour compared to the rest which is beech. So I decied to paint the legs to about half way up so they look like they have been dipped, heres the colour I picked! I love tester pots! I'm so happy with the result!! Way better than I had hoped, I really love little splashed of really intense colours on furniture and its so easy to alter if you change your mind later. My other little project was this super cute G Plan corner shelving unit which we got at a boot sale a few weeks ago for £5, it was really badly scratched and chipped and was again in that really 60s/70s dark strain. Unfortunately I forgot to take the 'before' pic so you'll have to take my word for how rubbish it looked, because now it is a thing of beauty!! We used the same lime green as we used on the mantlepiece clock (as I have 75% of the pot left), I really love this colour and it works so well with the blue on the phone table. Its really hard to find an angle to get boths pieces in the picture! So thats what Ive been doing with my first weekend off in 5 weeks, we'll be pretty buy the next few weeks as we are finally getting our roof replaced (after the leaks last winter) so our cottage currently looks like this... ...fingercrossed we get some dry weather, but then again this is Britain so Im not holding out much hope!
