Rich on a Roll

Yesterday was the first day since moving into our cottage two and half years ago that we had a shower! We have managed up till now with baths, which are ok but I'm a shower girl and have been waiting for this moment!
Picture
This of course turned into a pig of a job, fighting back as usual, but Rich persevered as ever and finally got it working. I hide upstairs in the studio until the swearing stopped!
Picture
And not only a nice new shower but thanks to my Mum for taking pity on us and buying me the Underground Map shower curtain she new I wanted! All of a sudden our bathroom is starting to look quite cool, although lets not get ahead of ourselves, we still have the radiator to fit and the bath panel to make!

Rich is between art jobs at the mo so he's had some time this week which is a rarity, I however keep disappearing off to answer emails and do bits of design work every 5 minuets.

Other jobs he's managed to get done this week include bagging a load of free wood off freecycled, a quick trip to the Bath City grounds to collect it, then an hour chopping it up so it will fit in our little log burner...

...which makes a good start on our winter stock pile (helping to keep the gas bill down!).

He also make a start on replacing the old worn out 70s doors...well actually he opened the door to the cupboard under the stairs and it pretty much fell off! Meaning hes spend the whole afternoon adapting an old 4 panel victorian pine door we got cheap from the Bristol Wood Recycling Project as a replacement.

I'm so pleased with how this looks, can't wait to get the others done, unfortunately none of the frames are square and almost all will require the frames being built out to make the old doors fit. Still the old pine looks way better that the 70s cardboard doors!

So there we are, my boy has been on a bit of a roll this week! I feel like we managed to get quite a bit done (this is of course the royal 'we'... my contribution was making a lot of tea!).

No More Tiling...Yay!

Finally, finally we have finished the bloody tiling of the bathroom! Good god I have never known a job take so long!
I still have one small patch to grout but 99% is finished and ready for the Bathroomy bits to go in at last. So yesterday we got up early and made a start re fitting the sink which has spend months living on our kitchen floor and getting in everyones ways.

It took a while to get all the holes lined up and drilling through tiles is always a nerve racking business but the clever boy managed it beautifully!

I think it looks amazing, am also so pleased with the Bristan 1901 taps (£10 off eBay!) which go with the sink so well. Of course once that was on we where on a roll so we fitting the vintage ceramic bathroom shelf which we cheekily brought with us from our last house.
Picture
Then I dug out the mirror I brought in 2011, this is a 50s mirror that would have originally been attached to a coloured backplate with a shelf and cup holder. We brought the mirror for £1 and it has been squirrelled away since then just waiting for the  bathroom to be finished.
Picture
I loved the squared off edges which match the sink and shelf perfectly and also the spotting around the edges, I know this puts a lot of people off (and was no doubt why it ended up at a bootsale for a £1 in the first place) but I have always liked old worn mirrors and I think it adds some nice texture to an otherwise new looking bathroom...
Picture
...it also works well next to the old outdoor swan necked lamp (another bootsale find).
Picture
We still have a lot of work left to do, I am hoping Rich can get the shower fitted next week and possible the radiator if we have time (and he doesn't get any more art jobs in), we also need to build a bath panel, paint the ceiling and lino the floor so plenty to keeps us busy! But at least I feel like we are on the home stretch now.
Picture
Its just so nice to be able to brush my teeth in the bathroom instead of over the kitchen sink!
