Junk Weeding

I am a horder...ok, no apologies or anything but yes I do seem to amass an astonishing amount of old crap. Heres some of the lastes rubbish (or treasure as I think of it!)
Picture
I have a real thing for enamel light fittings, I just LOVE them. Look at that shade of green, how quintessentially Brtish is that, its like have a little slice of English industrial history hanging in the living room!
Picture
This angle-pose lamp spent years in my dads shed (it came from a car boot sale, see its not my fault buying old rubbish is genetic!) Sadly Dads not here any more so I have taken if from his old shed and will use it to light my art desk, I like to think he would approve.
Picture
More boot sale bargins, another butterfly to add to my collection, a cute Roberts radio for Rich (it will go with the ned kitchen!) and more oak picture frames, we'er artists we can never have enough picture frames.

Ok so the reason for this post wasn't to gloat about my latest treasures, Rich and I have decied that we actually have too much old stuff, so some time in the next month or so I will be setting up a shop (probably on ebay) to sell off some of the stuff that we cant for one reason or another use, for anyone interested below are a few of the things that we will be parting with...
Picture
Look at that bad boy! We ended up with 2 of these, one is slightly smaller and we will use it in the kitchen, this one is the larger of the two and for our rather low ceilinged little cottage simple too big. It would look amazing in somewhere with high ceilings, or a loft apartment.
Picture
I love this deco light fitting, looks like it may have come out of a pub or something, the white milk glass is lovely and its actually surprisingly light weight considering the size (again big!).
Picture
I have rather a lot of these beautiful old paint tins, yes I am a painter but theres really only so many one girl needs. I really hope these find a new home as they are just lovely, they even smell good! All painty and oily with a bit of white spirits thrown in (ok I realise I may the only person who actually like smells like this!)

So there you are a little taster of our soon to be up and running shop, keep an eye out for more goodies soon!

Blooming Lovely

The garden really is giving me so much pleasure right now, yes the grass and hedges need a cut, the veg garden is far from finished and the parking we dug out is now a weed riddled dust bowl...what was my point again? Oh yes, the top bit of our monster garden is actually looking ok , quite pretty in a good light!
Picture
The herbs we got sent from Victoriana Nurseries are going crazy, I can't believe how fast they are growing. Its so lovely to see the big water tank filling up! We has also been enjoying our spinach grown from the seeds they supplied us with, I can't say how wonderful it is to be eating fresh crisp greens from our own garden again!
Picture
Lots of the flowers we planted are settling in to, the foxgloves where from a local garden center and Rich's Mum, but everything else in the front bed is  wild flower seeds again from the guys as Victoriana. This bed helps console me when I turn around and look at the rest of the garden!
Picture
Now when we moved house I steeled myself for the thought that some of the plants just wouldn't survive the move, the above grapevine I was sure would be the first victim, it was ripped from its warm cozy greenhouse and plonked in an alley way then had to make it though one of the coldest winters in years. Look at it, 3 months ago I was postive it was dead (like my poor wisteria and my struggling olive tree) but no, Lazerious the grape is determind to prove me wrong. It really needs a bigger pot as its forcing its way out of this one, so am on the look out for an old dolly tub.

I have since discovered from my neighbour who's house its actually leaning against,  his radiator is on the other side of this wall, needless to say said radiator was going full boor all winter long so I think this may have helped!
Picture
So we're getting there, slowly but surely. Time is always an issue, when I had a 9-5 job its was easier as I got a proper weekend, working freelance is harder as you end up feeling like you need to work all the time, leaving little room for other things. It also doesn't help when a week before you go on holiday your Land Rover fails its MOT and Rich has to spend 2 days under it trying to patch holes in the exhaust with baked bean tins.
Oh well, I sure its all terrible character building...or something. Compared to that growing veg is easy!

Our English Rust Kitchen

Ooh look, exactly a month since my last post, where the hell has the last 4 weeks gone?? Well 2 of them where spent up in Shropshire with our parents, enjoying chocolate eggs and royal weddings (oooh it was so good!!!), we did many nice things, spent time with lots of lovely peeps, some of whom we haven't seen in ages (my lovely globe roaming sister is back in the Shrew! Woo and indeed Hoo!).
As it can't be all picnics and car booting, we did a little work on our poor forlorn kitchen (still residing in Rich's mum and dads garage, good lord they must be sick of the damn thing taking up all the space!) on the plus side the enamel metal sink was actually in better nick then original thought, I think we can get away without re-enameling it! However the frame work at the back of the unit was...well...not longer there...
Picture
So a little rebuilding will need to take place, but all in all not so bad, although I think we will need the doors respraying (I think we can get a car body place to do). I think the problem above was coursed by years of the sink waste leaking slighty as the shelf under it have obviously had a bucket of water on it for long periods of time, the shelf had actually bent under the weight (easily done, we spent 3 years with a bucket under the sink at the last house until we  finally got round to fixing it)
Picture
So we need to find some new taps, and possibly a new bit of work top as the bit behind the sink is rotten, luckily we have a company called Source here in Bath and what to they specialise in, yes English Rose Kitchens. Fingers crossed we can buy some taps of them, we'll see.
