Vintage Curtains

Whenever Im out and about I always keep an eye out for vintage curtains, not that I always need curtains but they are a useful way of getting large quantities of nice fabric cheaply...plus I always have a spare curtain at the ready should the need arise!

Before Christmas me, Rich and couple of mates when to the Frome Independant, always a good day out with lots of lovely creative people selling amazing stuff! While we where there I nipped into one of my favorite vintage shops Lark Vintage...

Image shamlessly borrowed from Lark Vintages FB page, just to show you have beautiful it is!

Anyway, I always pop in if we're in Frome, they have gorgeous stuff in there and at really good prices, after a bit of a rummage I found and old 50s/60s heavy brocade curtain for the outrageously good price of £15. Its had a bit of hard life and was fraying quite badly down one side and along the bottom, so over christmas I turned a new hem and very careful hand stitched it all. It now hangs on our bedroom and I just love it!

Curtains are SOOO hard to photograph once hung with the light behind them! Anyway this give you and idea of the pattern and colours, it so geometric, I'm really please we picked it up.

I picked up yet another 70s curtain in a charity shop a few days ago, I do really like the 70s stuff as they used a lot more plants in the designs, some of the patterns around are terribly twee but I try to just buy the bold clean prints.

I just really liked the dandelion clocks design on this one and it only cost me £5, not bad as it pretty big and in perfect condition. I don't currently have a window I can use this on, so it will go in with my rather large fabric stash and will Im sure get used on a project eventually.

So there we are...Im a curtain hoarder!

How the hell is it 2015 already, I have no idea where last year went, it seemed to be over in no time! So anyway here we are only 10 days into the New Year and already christmas seems like ages ago, we took all the decorations down last weekend and the house now seems a bit bare (which of course it isnt, crammed to the rafts as it is!).

Our David Weeks Rhino and Bear have taken pride of place on the mantelpiece...

...along with some bulbs. I love having these around the house in Januray, they give me hope for the Spring!

I have found my Portmeirion mugs/soup bowls are the perfect size for the pots. I got 6 of these bowls end of last summer, the are the most fabulous pattern, called 'Magic Garden'.
Picture
I just adore the colours, it really reminds my of Angie Lewins stuff, another designer whos work I think is amazing!
Picture
Im pretty pattern crazy when it come the china, I never stick to just one design, I buy lots of different stuff and just jumble it all together (it drives my Mum mad!). The Kitchen is a pefect example of my magpie tenancies, I finally brough some placemats in December. I have needed some for ages to protect the vintage tablecloths, of couse I couldn't just by plain matts...
Picture
These is the Birdy range of homeware stuff by aptly named company Magpie, who do a wonderful range animal designs for the home. I brought my set through our local RSPB shop which stock a great range of their products!

Mmmm...clashy patterns!

So despite the January sales on everwhere I have been trying to be good and not go looking in the shops, however as I finally got my tax return in at the beginning of the week (always a traumatic  event) I felt I needed a little pat on the back, so brought a new bag.
Picture
This lovely creation is by Tom Frost, a print maker who's work is just wonderful! I have been ogling this on The Yorkshire Sculpture Parks shop for 6 months so needed very little excuse to finally buy one! Please check out their site for far less blurring pics!
Picture
Under the new bag you may notice the other new comer to our hall, my latest Ercol item an old phone seat! We didnt buy this luckily (as I have rather blown all my pennies this month!) but was very kindly given to us by Richards lovely Mummy, who found it in a junk shop Up North! Its quite watermarked and the stain is a bit too dark for our liking, when we get some warmed weather Im hoping to sand it back and treat with bees wax like we did the G-Plan sideboard and the Ercol plate rack.

So another project for the 2015 list!
